The question is, what did I really want when I started out on this adventure? To be my own boss and master of my own time? YES...If possible, to achieve this with singing and yes, to travel and live lightly.
So, where’s the problem? Aim recognised, mostly achieved. It's just that every now and then I got some fire in my head about wanting more, like taking part in the Folk Star of all England competition.
I felt totally out of place in the ice-cold, smoke-filled audition room, and was only too happy to be singing the next day in Green Park in the warm, March sunshine and earning a welcome ten pounds. Lesson learned? Not quite yet.
If I kept to the street, everything worked out. With the advent of family came the first LP, which sold well on the street and was followed by a host of recordings on records, cassettes and CDs which has kept us all warm and well.
There were difficult times as well, and when my wife and I separated, I wondered how on earth I would be able to support two families. And then, more then twenty thousand German marks appeared on my account. Royalties for my music arriving just in time and creating space for me to start home recording.
And then, I tried to get a record company interested in my music. That set me back for months, and after that I was cured for a while but, in 2012, I got another fire in my head when I thought that Julia and I should become Germany’s ‘Supertalent’. It was a disaster. We were cut down to size by Germany’s public enemy number one, Dieter Bohlen, who found our presentation as interesting as a hot dog.
And so, the next day we were singing once again on a craft market in the August sun, with a view of the Alpine mountains. What could be better? I was FREE and content. THAT was the fire in my head.
Was könnte schöner sein? Ich war FREI und zufrieden. DAS war das Feuer in meinem Kopf.
Dear Music-Friends,
We are happy to tell you, that we are out there again, on the streets of South of
