We made seventeen Francs on our street début in St. Tropez. Apart from that, we got bitten by ants at our sleeping place on the windy beach!
Well, I knew a secluded beach where one could camp at night. It was a short drive into Nice where we sang in the evenings with a similar success as in Paris.... During the day, we hung around on Beaulieu plage, roasted in the sun, drank warm beer and ate sardine sandwiches. Once, we were taken water skiing by a rich father with his bored daughter.
We left Nice after seeing the police bundle some fellow buskers into their van and then, on the advice of a Scottish guitarist, headed off to Florence, where I was threatened by a leather vendor with a knife on the Ponte Vecchio.
We fled north, only to discover that the strange smell of burning came from our threadbare tyres. So, on reaching Modena, John lit a candle to Saint Anthony, who we thought was the patron saint of lost causes and, after that our luck changed.
We found a car wreck with four good tyres and arrived in Verona on the day that the Pope died. This possibly explained the solemn gratitude for my mournful songs at nine in the morning, honoured by a surprising pile of bank notes in the hat which kept us in food till we crossed the Alps and found ourselves in Germany in the middle of August.
Dear Music-Friends,
We are happy to tell you, that we are out there again, on the streets of South of
France !
Hopefully rather sooner than later we will also add some new recordings on our site here.
Greetings and till then,
