Thousand Miles We started on the motorway Heading South, it was a brand new day The rain beat on the windscreen We were happy and on the road again Elation came when the sun broke through The rain-clouds we were passing through The motorway broke into narrow roads As creative as road building goes Castles hanging over rocks Seeet lavender fields, sheep in flocks Cathedrals, oh so very old And then there came the olive groves Stop we did to eat and drink Change drivers and to shake our feet Gaze and gasp at the beauty around us At the snow-capped hills and floral aboundness It was slowly clear to him and me Our only aim was to reach the sea! Maybe I said, „It’s very nice here Could imagine one day, perhaps next year To stop at this place and give it some time With its hills and gorges and plentiful wine But shall I drive now before it gets dark There’s a way to go, no place to park?“ He said to me, „No, I’m okay You’ve been driving almost all the day“ I have not my forefather’s brave To build a boat and cross the waves Where is home, where can it be Is it when we reach the sea The world is split up into two The stay-at-homes and me and you The place we found was almost rough A spot to park, get water and stuff Gravel ground, no villas in sight Bamboo bushes and the stars at night The sound of the sea was in our ears We lit a fire and drank our beer In the morning when the sun came out Then we knew what it was all about – To see the mountains across the bay And smell the mock orange, anyway We’d a thousand miles just him and me And now, at last, we’d reached the sea!

Sarsen Circle It’s not the druid priestess speaking to me in my dreams It’s not the celtic lord, nor yet the Wessex king It’s not the call of history, though that is rich and deep It’s something much more simple That keeps me from my sleep It’s not the roman legions, that settled in this land It’s not the norman conquerer nor yet the saxon theign It’s not the abbey church nor the ghost of Gwynevere It’s not those courtly nuns, who whisper in my ear Take me home, take me home To where the sarsen circle stands upon the plain Take me home, take me home Let my acheing heart be free again Waking up one morning, in a strange new room In my native village, the place where I was born I heard the cooing of the doves in the nearby trees And this it was that spoke to me, long after in my dreams Give to me the april showers and the harvest moon Give to me the hawthorn, the scent of early June Where the winding roads, made by a drunkard‘s hand Lead the lonely wanderer through an ancient land It’s not the druid priestess speaking to me in my dreams It’s not the celtic lord, not yet the Wessex king It’s not the abbey church nor the ghost of Gwynevere It’s not those courtly nuns, who whisper in my ear

Vagabond and Gipsy Four o’clock, I’ve brushed my teeth but you are not so far You’re sitting there on your bed still playing my guitar I took your fingers from the strings and now your hands are free Your hands, your eyes and your lips, just for me! You wanted that I stay with you until you fell asleep Simply lying next to you, just keeping you awake Our lips they were enclosing, eager to explore And what we found, we really liked and wanted more! I give to you this ring, I will give you everything A vagabond can give to a gipsy queen I give to you this ring, you will give me anything Vagabond and gipsy queen We only kissed, we only touched, we only held each other We touched each other to the soul, yes as lovers The early morning birds sang us into dreams When we awoke our lips were waiting to meet again In my mind I gave to you long time ago this ring You gave me one the moment as you touched your violin The vagabond and the gipsy on a rainy meadow Together lost, together found, now and forever

Still 03:45
Still I lie in the bus still too drunk to get up Enjoying with two senses the morning After a night celebrating just this being together And the hours ran by with our songs I can still feel your hand, big and warm on my head When you brought me to sleep, it was long after dawn And I took it without thinking in a sudden emotion Not imagine this could happen just two days before I can still feel your hand... Only moments ago I awoke with the wish That I could, one more time, feel the touch Of your hand, big and warm on my skin on my face But this time not as girl but as woman And a little while later I´m still here with a pen Try to catch flying thoughts, feeling chaos Should not try to explain neither to understand Just lean back and let time go by I can still feel your hand...

Singer of the Street When I was a normal working man I felt my life drifting like the sand I was still young, the world lay at my feet Aha, I said to me, be a singer of the street! Singer, singer of the the street Singer, singer of the the street When I sailed the channel cross to France People on the street began to dance I’d pennies in my pocket, now if you please Aha, I said to me, it is a life of ease! Now I am a family man I’ve taken to the road in a motor-caravan Five children, three cats, no dog, my lovely lady-mine Aha, I say to me, today, I’m feeling fine! Time ago, this story did begin Rich, poor, I always sing If you like to know the message, to you I have to say Aha, there is no message, I just live from day to day!

The Cave 05:10
The Cave Down by the lake in the old oak wood A cave, hiding from the light of day Constant in summer and winter rain Warm, dark and secure Secret ivy covers the entrance You wish to part the leaves but do not dare For the bones that now lie scattered around Show that something lives here You think that, maybe, it is a wolf But none have been sighted for years And a dog would have buried them, anyhow Then what sort of beast is hunting deer? The fire on the stone is burning slow You face the other face across the flame As if the years roll back, you are at home Here, at home in the cave

Travelling People On the road again, at the break of day Our precious little things, companions on our way Crossing borders, we are free to travel as we please Create a sense of home wherever we may go For we are travelling people, forever on the move For we are travelling people, forever on the move Always on the move, our load is light to bear Our fare is simple food, the winds can take all care People look when we arrive, they stare and wonder where We go and whence we come and what we have to share For we are travelling people, forever on the move For we are travelling people, forever on the move Raise your tent, put up your stand Show your goods, they’re made by hand For we have come from many lands And we are travelling people Children are our friends and old folk too are dear We share with them our dreams, we share with them our cheer We watch their smiles, we feel their tears As song and dance goes on And on into the night, the cheerful sounding night For we are travelling people, forever on the move For we are travelling people, forever on the move

Troubadour 04:18
Troubadour No room at the inn, no place on the stage No space on the street, born to another age I’ve cut off all ties, severed all bonds The joker in the pack has come to your home I’d buy myself a suit, if there was one that would fit I’d bite apon the hook, if I were a fish It’s said in the stars, your own cross to bear The joker in the pack must fit anywhere I am the Troubadour, travelled wide That which I have seen and heard I’ll sing to you in my gentle song I’m the Troubadour, I’ve come to your home Like a thief in the night, a bandit on the plain Collect one day’s loot, tomorrow start again At the end of the day, there’s silver and gold The joker in the pack will say „Thank you Lord!“ I am the Troubadour, travelled wide... The cherry from the tree will fall to the earth Some will shrivell up, another give birth Somehow, all will fit into a greater plan I’m the Troubadour and I am your man No room at the inn, no place on the stage No space on the street, born to another age I’d buy myself a suit, if there was one that would fit I’d bite apon the hook, if I were a fish Like a thief in the night, a bandit on the plain Collect one day’s loot, tomorrow start again I can see your face, I can touch your lips You can move my soul in this summer’s heat A master to the rich and a servant to the poor The joker in the pack must love one and all I am the Troubadour, travelled wide...

Unspoken Words I felt it coming over river and lake I felt it come as the birds did wake I’m not in love, just belong to you Age apart, it is true You can hide behind your secret self You can hide behind everything else I’m in the shade of a generous sun Unspoken words turn to song If I’m mistaken, I am a fool But I know too well when I’ve found a jewel More beautiful than this summer’s day More beautiful than the month of May

Rainbow and the Moon I’ll tell you a tale of the rainbow and the moon In stormy skies are these two lovers seen When the rainbow smiles with colours of joy To join with the sun and the rain She feels the call of the moon She feels the call of the moon So listen, oh listen, oh lovers do To the tale of the rainbow and moon For the moon is loving but he cannot stray From his endless journey through time His power is to pull when the rainbow is full To reach him, she will always climb The rainbow wakes with water and with sun Her suitors are many but she loves only one Yet when she wakes, her suitors are nearby The winds, the clouds, they dance her love to buy She knows the moon is waiting for her She knows he needs her love Through years through time, oh often had she thought To climb the sky to reach his silent hight And once, not so many years ago she touched his gentle shape Then quivered in delight, oh, quivered in delight

Vanity 03:46
Vanity I’ve wandered many moons, I’ve wandered many stars I’ve greeted many dawnings of the sun I layed my head at night in the circle of the tree In the morning kissed the breathing of the wind All words have been said, all senses sung Every creature will breath again The stone has shed it’s sand, sand will turn to stone All words have given seed and seed was sown Vanity, oh vanity, what is death But to melt into the sun and free the life from breath? From the river of silence, drink, you may sing Give your limbs to the earth and dance A child in the womb and yet hardly born Will return to the earth again It is the fate of Man, also of the sun All that is around us, each and every one And who will be the one with whom I share my dream And cradle in my heart while I sleep To wander many moons, to wander many stars In the circle of the tree, in the circle of the tree? Vanity, oh vanity, what is death But to melt into the sun and free the life from breath? From the river of silence, drink, you may sing Give your limbs to the earth and dance
