Heaven's Gate To tell a tale of Heaven's Gate It's like looking at God almost face to face A magic moment of Time and Light Where the day has joined with the night You are the stars and you are the sun You are the world and everyone The smile of your lover is always there Her hands and her lips are everywhere I went there once, it was almost by chance I'd a week behind me, driving through France With my youngest son, he's a' hell of a guy' We got back home and we said 'goodbye' I went on my way to discover the world She stood at the corner with a smile so wide My heart missed a beat, quickened it's pace I stood once again at Heaven's Gate! This time I was blessed with a questioning kiss She took my hand - and I'm telling you this - The gates went open and we walked in And what I felt there, I never could sing You are the stars and you are the sun You are the world and everyone The smile of your lover is always there Her hands and her lips are everywhere I do not know if I go there again You can never be sure and you never know when She licked the wine from off of my lips How could I have known, it was the last kiss? You are the stars and you are the sun You are the world and every-one The smile of your lover is always there Her hands and her lips are everywhere Heaven's Gate is a wonderful place Looking at God almost face to face A shooting star, some dust from the sun A glimpse of eternity and then it was gone!

Lady of my Dreams I met you long ago One morning in my sleep You were breathless, full of passion Then our lips did meet There was no doubt, there was no guilt Time was standing still You were meant for me And I was meant for you Lady, lady, lady of my dreams Lady, lady, lady of my dreams I drove around at midnight But you were never there I hung around in coffee bars Couldn't find you anywhere For all my restless searching Didn't see what I had found In the twinkling of a moment Your eyes had captured mine Lady, lady, lady of my dreams Lady, lady, lady of my dreams Deception of the light I could swear you summoned me So late into the night On the threshold of a dream I do not know, I cannot tell I've chords without a tune The embassy that I received I believe it came from you Lady, lady, lady of my dreams Lady, lady, lady of my dreams I saw the oceans in your eyes and the sky above the mountains The inspiration in disguise The answers to my questions You are priestess, you are queen You are the rising sun You are the gentle summer breeze Upon the golden corn If this is only in my head And shaddows of the night Then I could marry fantasy And you would be my wife! Eradicate the day Take faith in the night Then I could marry fantasy And you would be my wife! Lady, lady, lady of my dreams Lady, lady, lady of my dreams

Utopia 03:28
Utopia I don't seek fortune and I don't seek fame If I'm searching for anything, it's peace of mind A simple living and a daily bread Free from fear, free from dread No climatic catastrophy, no child abuse No drunken driving, no policeman's shoes No fanatical religion, no Vatican dues No-one telling you and me what to do No teachers with nothing much to teach No political conjurers with tricks up their sleeve No preachers telling us what to believe No parasites living from our deeds Utopia, Utopia, an island with no shore Utopia, Utopia, that doesn't know the name for war No wisdom that is not wise at all No words without the writing on the wall No music, as hollow as a bell No Art with the only aim to sell Utopia, Utopia, an island with no shore Utopia, Utopia, where no-one need ask for more No currency, possession, no borders at all No such thing as rich and poor No parent who sells his child as a whore No more fruit that's rotten to the core Utopia, Utopia, an island with no shore Utopia, Utopia, where freedom needs no law I don't seek fortune and I don't seek fame If I'm searching for anything, it's peace of mind A simple living and a daily bread Free from fear, free from dread No climatic catastrophy, no child abuse No drunken driving, no policeman's shoes No fanatical religion, no Vatican dues No-one telling you and me what to do Utopia, Utopia, an island with no shore Utopia, Utopia, where no-one need ask for more Utopia, Utopia, an island with no shore Utopia, Utopia, and I do not ask for more, but Utopia, Utopia, an island with no shore Utopia, Utopia, as children we have been there before

1000 Miles to Reach the Sea We started on the motorway, Heading south, it was a brand new day The rain beat on the windscreen We were happy and on the road again Elation came when the sun broke through The rain clouds were were passing through The motorway broke into narrow roads As creative as road building goes Castles hanging over rocks Sweet lavender fields and sheep in flocks Cathedrals, oh so very old Then there came the Olive Groves Stop we did, to eat and drink Change drivers and to shake our feet Gaze and gasp at the beauty around us At the snow-capped hills, floral aboundness Slowly clear to him and me Without a a word, we were heading for the sea! Maybe I said, "it's very nice here Could imagine one day, perhaps next year To stop at this place and give it some time With its hills and gorges and plentiful wine Shall I drive now, before it gets dark A way to go, no place to park?" He said to me - now I'm okay You've been driving almost all the day I have not my forefathers' brave To build a boat and cross the waves Where is home, where can it be Is it when we've reached the sea? The world is split up into two The stay-at-homes and me and you The place we found was almost rough A spot to park, get water and stuff Gravel ground, no villas in sight Bamboo bushes and the stars at night The sound of the sea was in our ear We lit a fire and drank our beer In the morning, when the sun came out Then we knew what it was all about To see the mountains across the bay Smell the mock orange, anyway We'd a thousand miles, him and me And now, at last, we'd reached the sea!

Windsor 04:34
Windsor Cold gold against a blue-black sky Windsor castle, I espy Waving flag says the queen's at home Left the palace, she's left the town Fast cars, driven by stars Dukes and Earls with their ladies in their pearls Curls in their hair and the clothes to match They don't worry which train to catch To get to Windsor Down on the river the boats do wait Till the lock-keeper opens up the gate All at once they are busy buzzing past Make the most of a fortnight, go fast Half past ten, the band moves in Playing a tune for soldier tin Coats and their busbies blowing in the air It is for the tourists they are there They come to Windsor Boys from Eton are intent On being one day in the Government Or at ease with the world in their stately homes Saturdays they can do the town High above, a deadening noise Airplane up there tearing the skies Washington to London, London and back again They don't see much, they have to hurry up To get to Windsor Shops are selling souvenirs Pubs are serving real english beer Cafés open up their door Tea for two at half past four Call at the castle, see the queen She's often in, more usually seen Waving at the world from her royal car The Duke at her side they make a lovely pair In Windsor Cold gold............. Windsor, everybody's going to Windsor, Windsor town!

Watching all the Ladies In the sultry heat of summer when the thought of work is farce The cyclists are cycling their Marathon through France Thunder clouds are holding off and city lights do shine You'll find me at a corner Café, wine glass in my hand I will be watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! The harbour lights are twinkling as the stars up in the sky The waves are gently lapping up against the quay When I come, the waiter smiles, he waves his hand at me "This table is for you, sir," - the usual – I will say I will be watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! Now, watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! It's not as if I'm lonely or searching for a bride Many a pretty petal, this night will pass me by And a gentleman gains pleasure as a Botanist studies flowers What better way can you show me to spend these evening hours Than watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by? Oh but watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! And why are they all wearing such thin and delicate clothes? Showing so much arm and leg and stomach, hips and toes? Is it that they're just too hot or forgotten their coats? Or maybe they're hoping some gentleman will notice And is watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! Oh but watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! 'Tis a harmless passtime and I am not alone This Café where I'm sitting is the best placed here in town There's a tapping on the cobblestone of dainty lady's shoes Now the heads are turning and met with sweet perfume! Yes, we're watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! Oh, but watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! Watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by! Oh, but watching, watching all the ladies Watching all the ladies passing by!

This Town 03:28
This Town I was a stranger who came to this land Came from an island into your town Poor as a church mouse with no-where to go I didn't know it but I'd found a home I've never lived here but somehow it's home It's like a magnet made out of stone Don't have to go far to get what you need Everything's local, if you know what I mean! With every little word that I have read With every single picture in my head With every needy child that I have fed When all is done and all is said- I've come to love this town! Know every café, know every street Know every cobble-stone under my feet Know all the church bells and when they chime Know many faces, they seem to know mine! You are my anchor when I need land Sailing on rough seas, not running aground You are my passion, the wind in my sails You are my reason, the rudder I hold Quo Vadis? Attempto! Quo Vadis? I'm going home! I was a stranger who came to this land Came from an island into your town Poor as a church mouse with no-where to go I didn't know it but I'd found a home

The Friend 02:58
The Friend You are the friend who came to stay You are the friend who came this day Bearing the lily-white on your breast Bearing the lily-white flower of the field You are the friend who asked me for bread I gave you a stone, the street for your bed Tiny children played by your side Under the moon and the stars in the night You are the friend who came to stay You are the friend who came this day Bearing the lily-white on your breast Bearing the lily-white flower of the field

Sunday Morning Ah, Sunday morning, Sunday morning has come to me! Dreaming on a Sunday morning Time goes by without any warning for me, ahaha! Dipping in the timeless ocean of thoughts, ahaha! Other people do their different things There's the beauty of it all And I hear the church bells ringing Asking some to answer that call I'm just sitting here, that's my way Watching other people start their day! Ah, Sunday morning, Sunday morning has come to me! Misses Mathews She's a-hanging up her washing On a Sunday morning, and it's not allowed But she does, ahaha! Mister Jones He's a-washing of his car On a Sunday morning and it's not allowed But he does too, oohoohoo! It makes me glad to think Rebellion still goes on On a Sunday morning, here in town It makes me glad to sing you this song Ah, Sunday morning, Sunday morning has come to me! Church-time ended, people mended Time for going home or to the pub, ahaha! 'Course the men-folk drinking And the women cooking Oh, the men-folk drinking And the women cooking Food is burning Now the tempers rising Children shouting Oh, the children crying There's the rub Yes, there's the rub! Well, and that reminds me It's my turn too, to put the dinner on Here's an end To this little Sunday song! Ah, Sunday morning, Sunday morning has come to me!

Lonely Road 02:47
Lonely Road The flashing of the fire-flies To the rhythmn of the land I can see her strange lips quaver And always understand The jabbering of foreign tongues Is music to my ear The idiocy of being odd Is freedom for my fear I'm on my own, my own My own lonely road My own, my own My own lonely road Living from your wits Will always take it's toll From day to day and hand to mouth Slowly growing old I'm the victim of my actions Oh - it is a shame! If I lose my sense of direction There's no-one else to blame I'm on my own, my own My own lonely road My own, my own My own lonely road No scape-goat, no-one to hate! As a jester to the king I'm a servant to my song If dreams will have no wings A market place no stands "And if," he says "you fear yourself Sing it, shout it out" I heard myself sing softly- The moon is up-side-down tonight! My own, my own My own lonely road My own, my own My own lonely road

First True Love Many, many years ago When grass was green and sky was blue Before the golden corn was cut I found my first true love A country girl, both fair and young With a delicate voice and a lilting tongue And a smile to win the proudest heart She had already mine When boy meets girl, things take their course With hidden looks and smiling eyes Where there's a will, there is a way No-one had to try! We danced the hours and we came near And then, she whispered in my ear "I have a key to a secret place If you will just come here" Holding hands, we went for walks In the setting sun of timelesness Sweet nothings were our twilight talks Then we did make love I can't remember a rainy day We loved to hold each other warm She was a mother to her child And I was still so young The summer passed, but not our love And still we met from time to time The paths we trod were different paths Nothing was the same The years rolled by, went on their way What was left was memory - What do I remember about her most - She asked me that today Her smile, her voice and exciting scent And all that's in this song Most of all that she had a boy That I was so young Her smile, her voice and exciting scent And all that's in this song Most of all that she had a boy And that I was so young
